South Lyon vs. Salem Tuesday, September 28th
The Salem Rocks came into the Jungle for a KLAA Central Division soccer match. The Rocks came back twice to win a 3-2 game.
South Lyon scored first, 7 minutes into the game when Junior Jake Prud'homme sent a corner kick into the box and Senior Tom Berry headed the ball into the net for the 1-0 Lions lead. After back and forth play that is how the half would end.
The second half saw Salem tie the game up at 1-1 when Brandon Barfuss finished off a free kick. South Lyon made it 2-1 when Senior Eric Krueger crossed the ball to Senior Austin Stowe. Salem would then score 2 goals 45 seconds apart with 13 minutes left in the game for the 3-2 win.
"It is nice to start scoring goals again, but we need to maintain composure and shape on the field," commented South Lyon Coach Tracee Senter. "We had two leads and were unable to keep either of them. We are moving in the right direction but our learning curve needs to speed up so we are ready for districts."
South Lyon is now 5-7-2 overall and 1-6 in the KLAA Central.
South Lyon vs. SL East Tuesday, September 21st
The Lions traveled to SLE on Tuesday night for the battle of the cats. The Lions scored 4 goals in each half to win 8-1.
Senior Captain Eric Krueger scored 4 minutes into the game and added two more for his first career hat trick. Junior Jake Prud'homme scored 4 goals for South Lyon for his first career hat trick. Junior Jay Kidston scored his first career goal to round out the Lions scoring. South Lyon East scored on a PK. South Lyon is now 5-5-2 on the year and 1-4 in the KLAA Central.

South Lyon vs. Livonia Stevenson Thursday, September 16th
South Lyon traveled to Livonia for a KLAA Central division matchup. After limited chances by both teams, Livonia Stevenson scored in the second half to win 1-0.
South Lyon had chances to score in the first half but could not convert. Shots by the Lions' Jake Prud'homme, Austin Stowe, and Chandler Lach came close, but no cigar.
The second half Stevenson picked it up and they were rewarded with a goal with 20 minutes left in the match. The Lions put a lot of pressure on goal after that but could not find the equalizer.
"We played well defensively tonight, but we need to score goals to win," said Tracee Senter. "We had chances and will need to convert or we will continue to end up losing 1 or 2 to 0."
South Lyon is now 4-4-2 overall and 0-4 in the KLAA Central and host Hartland at home tomorrow night.
South Lyon vs. Novi Tuesday, September 14th
The Novi Wildcats (ranked 10th in division 1) came into South Lyon on Tuesday for a KLAA Central Division match up. Novi scored three first half goals and then made it stand for a 3-0 win over the Lions.
The start of the game saw both teams trade chances at net. Novi broke through halfway through the first half to make it 1-0 and then scored 2 minutes later to go up two. They would break through the Lions defense again with 8 minutes to go in the half. South Lyon stood tall the rest of the game but could not get on the scoreboard.
"We left the middle of the field open twice and they burned us for two quick goals," commented Lions Varsity Coach Tracee Senter. "We have some key injuries right now and are struggling to stay healthy. I am very proud of all the guys for their determination and the never quit attitude. As we get players back from injury and others get experience, we should be able to get back on the winning track soon."
South Lyon is now 4-3-2 overall and 0-3 in the KLAA.

South Lyon vs. Northville Tuesday, September 7th
The 2009 KLAA Central Division champs Northville came into the Jungle on Tuesday for a matchup with the Lions. After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs scored two in the second to win 2-0.
South Lyon battled hard in the first half keeping Northville's chances down and getting a few of their own. The 20-30 mile an hour wind made it difficult for both teams and the score was 0-0 at half.
The second half started the same way, but 8 minutes in, Northville's Dan Yutzy shot the ball into the crowd and it hit off a Lions player and deflected into the goal for a 1-0 Mustang lead. Northville continued pressure and scored again with 14 minutes left when Brendon Burdette found the upper right corner to make it a 2-0 final.
"We need to step our up our play", commented Lions Varsity Coach Tracee Senter. "We were successful in the first part of the season, but this is the toughest league in the state of Michigan, and when you make mistakes they cost you goals. We also have to captilize on their mistakes and we did not do that tonight."
South Lyon is now 4-1-2 on the season and 0-1 in the KLAA Central.
South Lyon vs. Lakeland Monday, August 30th
South Lyon traveled to Lakeland on Monday night to rekindle an old KVC soccer matchup. South Lyon scored a goal in the first half, then hung on to win 1-0.
The first half was back and forth, with both teams getting some scoring chances. Halfway through the first half, Senior Austin Stowe threw the ball into Senior Mark Sadler who crossed the ball into the box. Sophomore Chandler Lach headed the ball into the net for the 1-0 Lions lead.
The beginning of the second half went like the first, then Lakeland turned on the pressure trying to tie the game up. The Lions defense and Senior Keeper Matt Stevens made 11 saves for the teams 4th shutout of the season and the 1-0 win. South Lyon is now 4-0-2 on the season and opens KLAA play at home on Tuesday, September 7th against Northville.
South Lyon vs Pinckney Thursday, August 26th
South Lyon traveled to Pinckney on Thursday night and scored two goals in the second half to win 2-1.
The first half was played in the midfield with both teams only getting a couple chances each and could not captalize. But after the scoreless first half, South Lyon turned up the tempo. Junior Jake Prud'homme sent a free kick into the Pinckney penalty area and older brotherSenior Elliott Prud'homme got on the end of it and deposited it into the net for a 1-0 Lions lead. Five minutes later the Lions made it 2-0 when Senior Eric Krueger and Jake combined off a corner kick and found Senior Drew Mexicotte on the far post. Drew headed the ball into the net to extend the Lions lead. Pinckney cut the lead in half when they scored with 15 minutes left, but the Lions defense held strong after that and they came away with the 2-1 victory. The Lions are now 3-0-2 on the season and travel to Lakeland on Monday, August 30th.
South Lyon vs Fenton Monday, August 23rd
The Fenton Tigers took a trip into the Jungle at South Lyon on Monday evening for the Lions home opener. The Lions scored 2 second half goals on their way to a 2-0 victory.
South Lyon opened the game with great possession of the ball but were not rewarded on the offensive end. The Lions out shot Fenton 6-0 in the first half, but could not get one by the keeper. The second half started much the same, but with 19:05 left, a great combination play between Senior Mark Sadler and Junior Jake Prud'homme resulted in a Drew Mexicotte goal and a 1-0 Lions lead. Ten minutes later South Lyon added to it when Senior Eric Krueger and Sophomore Chandler Lach assisted on a goal by Sadler. Senior Matt Stevens made 3 saves for his 3rd shutout of the season.
"We continue to get better every time out and our defense has really picked it up since the preseason," commented Lions Varsity Coach Tracee Senter. "Seniors Trevor Laskowski, Tom Berry, Austin Johnston, and Brandon Chaney, along with Sophomore Grant Scovel are gelling back there and keeping teams from getting quality chances. Add to that the play of Matt Stevens and we are becoming a difficult team to score on."
South Lyon is now 2-0-2 as they travel to Pinckney on Thursday and to Lakeland next Monday.
Portage Invitational Saturday, August 21st 2010
The South Lyon Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Portage, MI on Saturday for the Portage Invitational Soccer event. This event allows teams from all over the state to play three games in one day. South Lyon went 1-0-2 on the day, only giving up one goal in the three games.
The first game saw South Lyon play division 2 power Vicksburg. South Lyon scored late in the first half on a goal from Junior Jake Prud'homme, with Senior Drew Mexicotte and Sophomore Chandler Lach with the assists. Senior Dan Morris scored in the second half to make it 2-0 South Lyon with assists going to Mexicotte and Lach again. Senior Matt Stevens made 10 saves for the shutout in goal.
In game two, South Lyon faced a Plainwell team that was in the division 2 final four and lost to the eventual state champion 1-0 in double overtime last fall. South Lyon scored first when Mexicotte assisted Jake Prud'homme's second goal of the day. Plainwell tied it up in the second half and earned the 1-1 draw.
In game three, South Lyon and Mattawan played to a 0-0 draw. Tired legs and bodies prevailed as neither team could muster very many quality chances on net. Stevens made 6 saves for his second shutout of the day and season.
"We played two top teams in division 2 today", commented Varsity Coach Tracee Senter. "This being our first year in division 2, we feel like we can play with anyone in the division come state tournament time. If we continue to improve all year, we will definitely make some noise come October."
South Lyon is now 1-0-2 on the season and hosts Fenton on Monday, August 23rd and travel to Pinckney on Thursday, August 26th.
